Remember to add keywords if your query is a specific one. F/M/C has by far the strongest late game, but the slow XP progression will make the first chapters really tedious (though the entire end of the game will be trivial).Paladin is a pretty solid choice if you want a faster early progression while keeping a very strong late game. Since you don't have a to worry about XP splitting, you'll reach respectable HPs and THAC0 a lot faster than a F/M/C, and the possibility to use Long Swords and Axes will allow you to use some of the strongest weapons in the game (Pale Justice, Long Sword of Action + 4, Axe of the Minotaur Lord.).Also, contrary to BG, Paladins in IWD are able to access level 5 and 6 divine spells.

This means that you'll have access to spells like Righteous Magic, Righteous Wrath of the Faithful, Magic Resistance, or Entropy Shield. Spells will also scale with your Paladin level, even though you only start to get them at level 6. So at level 30 your Armor or Faith will provide a 35% Damage Resistance, your Draw Upon Holy Might will easily rise your Str/Dex/Con to 25/25/25, and a lot of your most useful buffs will last 30+ rounds. In my experience, there are 2 fights in the game however that will be extremely challenging with a solo HoF Paladin: Yxunomei (since if you start at level 1, your gear at this point in the game will be pretty meh. This will make the fight difficult, not because of Yxunomei herself, but mainly because of the 3 mages that will spawn, as they will all be protected by stoneskin, will dispell your buffs and deal a lot magic/acid damage) and the 3 Rakshasa in TotL.

Yakuza kiwami 2. This is however a pretty fun alternative to F/M/C, and as someone who did this starting from level 1 and with a few extra restrictions (like no use of summons and must clear every map of every monster) and had a blast, I really recommend Paladin.
