I don't know why and how, but this skin makes many hard maps easier to play in osu!Mania mode, especially 4Key. As the notes become bigger and much easier to read.

Hey, I’m Astovi, and I’m here for another review. Today I’m going to be reviewing Project VOEZ, a skin that’s inspired by the rhythm game VOEZ.

This skin also has all the other modes skinned, so I’m gonna be getting some help. Hey everybody, Emik here tagging along with this review. I’ll be doing the mania portion.

With all that aside, let’s get into the review. The song selection looks amazing. I love the way the osu button was skinned out. I also like the border that is put on the profile picture. Another big plus is the way the sorting icons were done, with the diamonds turning from pink to blue based on what you have selected. Mod icons fit perfectly with the skin, but I have to give a con since it INFURIATES ME that suicide on SD was misspelled. The ranking panel also looks great.

The numbers are easy to read and the theme that plays in the background comes from the game VOEZ itself. I don’t really like that the diamond goes through the graph though. The grade images are top notch. Grades D to A are standard and white, but S gets a blue coloring and an outer glow. If you go beyond plus ultra though, and get an SS, you’ll get a golden color.

So for gameplay, the skin kinda overprioritizes beauty over actually being able to play the game. It’s way too flashy, and as much as I love this skin I have to take off quite a few points for that. Focusing on the A E S T H E T I C S, I admire all the effort put into it.

Everything is focused around diamonds, which is the general motif of the game VOEZ. You see it everywhere, with it being in the number icons, sliders, hitbursts, health bar, and heck even the cursor and cursor trail. The heavy white glow around the cursor makes it quite easier to read, though not as easy as a gameplay oriented skin. Every hit on a circle causes an explosion of diamonds. I’m kinda surprised how easily I’m able to read the skin.

Hitsounds are great, and I’m pretty sure they’re just hitsounds from the game itself. They give a nice sound, are easy to follow along to, and they don’t distract you too much.

There’s a sound effect for pausing, but there isn’t a pause loop, leaving an e e r i e s i l e n c e I like the way the pause screen is designed. The fail screen also does its job, but I really wish there was a failsound. It just sticks with the default crumbling failsound. The very first thing that caught my eye when loading up this skin is the hit lighting, it is very gorgeous but also very huge. This skin also features big, thick columns which is definitely something that more skins should do in general, while it is bigger than what I would use, it is significantly better than having it cramped.

There’s also the judgments at the very top of the screen, it stays close to the combo which makes feedback a lot clearer. The judgments themselves are also excellent, it doesn’t follow your traditional color scheme but still is fairly intuitive. I especially like how the 300 and 300g share the same color but 300g opts for the word “Perfect” instead of numbers. One major complaint I have is the long notes, specifically the very end.

They use the same sprite as a regular note and this makes it very easy to confuse holds with having a note at the very end. It also makes “Full LN” or “noodles” pretty much impossible. A detail worth addressing is that every key mode is skinned, all the way from 1 to 18.

Osu skins voez project voez

It’s pretty rare to come across a skin that does that. Considering the amount of time it takes to edit the skin.ini file, and how most mania players will only touch 4 or 7 keys, I’m happy to see skinners do them anyway. The general brightness of the columns, plus the gigantic hitlighting unfortunately make it a very distracting skin to use. For the song selection, I’ll give a 4.5 out of 5.

It would be a 5 but THAT GODDAMN MISSPELLING AAAA- The ranking panel is a 4.5 out of 5. The standard gameplay I’ll give 3 out of 5. It’s beautiful, but it’s really hard to actually play.

The mania gameplay I’ll give 4 out of 5, I enjoy the graphics and it’s compatible with every key mode, however even with the gameplay-optimized version, I found it very challenging to get consistent accuracy, especially with bursts or tech patterns. Overall this skin has earned a 4.5 out of 5.

As for the visuals, I’ll give it a 5. And the gameplay’s a 2.5. What do you think of this skin? What do you think of our review? Let us know using the comment section below!

Damned lies and statistics. What's the origin of the phrase 'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics'?This quotation is oftenattributed to Benjamin Disraeli, the 19th century British Prime Minister. The source for this viewis the autobiography of Mark Twain, where he makes that attribution. It suggests that statisyics can be used to mislead even more than the worst form of untruth.

Also please I beg you subscribe to Astovi. And uh check out my channel I guess. It really feels like they were reviewing this incorrectly. Trying to review this skin like it’s meant to be made for “pro play” wasn’t a good decision to me. Instead of reviewing it based on that, review it on how closely it matches the original game. Down marking the visuals because it is “too flashy”?

The skin is meant to be flashy, since the original game was flashy. And changing it to be more for “pro play” would make the skin stray away from what voez was. They came at this from a incorrect point of view in my opinion.
